Top AI image generators in 2025

Updated: 4 days ago

AI image generators allow you to create unique images based on short descriptions.

And the technology has become really good.

Curious to learn which AI image tool we prefer?

Top AI image generators in 2025 👇🏼

Midjourney AI image generator

Midjourney is our top pick for AI image generation. When you master the art of prompting, the results are impressively accurate. The high-quality images, rapid generation speed, and extensive customization options make it a favorite. You can create various styles and even symmetrical images with ease.

However, the learning curve is steeper. Operating through Discord might feel odd for some (any guesses why they chose this?). All creations are public by default, but businesses can opt for a private Discord server with stealth mode (available with pro or mega plans) to keep images private.

DALL-E 3 image generator tool within ChatGPT 4o

DALL-E 3 is another famous AI image generator. It is our favorite in terms of usability since you can use it directly within ChatGPT or Microsoft Bing's AI Copilot. It is very easy to use. You simply tell ChatGPT what you want to see. It uses GPT-4's understanding to expand your image prompt, making it much easier to use than Midjourney.

Although the quality of most images is really good, it doesn't reach the level of Midjourney images. Another drawback is the reduced control over customization.

Stable Diffusion's AI image app DreamStudio

DreamStudio, the web app for Stable Diffusion, stands out by offering free credits.

Unlike Midjourney and DALL-E 3, Stable Diffusion is open source. This allows tech-savvy users to download, run, and even fine-tune it on their own computers for specific needs.

Many services generating artistic and historical portraits rely on Stable Diffusion as their "engine."

Stable Diffusion is also available through its app DreamStudio. It offers extensive control over the image generation process. You can adjust image size, prompt accuracy, model steps, and the number of images generated using intuitive sliders.

However, there is a steeper learning curve compared to other AI art generators, and the editing tools in DreamStudio aren't very intuitive.

Getty AI image generator within iStock

Getty's AI image tool is easily accessed via iStock and excels in creating stock-like photos. For more creative prompts, like futuristic landscapes or abstract art, it struggles more.

Trained on Getty's stock image catalog, the tool emphasizes legal safety, making it ideal for companies wary of copyright issues. Getty compensates artists whose work was used to train the model.

This tool is reliable for generating commercially safe images, but it lacks the creativity and quality of leading AI image generators like Midjourney, DALL-E 3, or Stable Diffusion.

Assessment framework for evaluating AI tools

When assessing AI tools, especially those designed for creative tasks like image generation, it's essential to have a well-structured framework. This ensures the evaluation is thorough and captures all aspects of the tool’s performance and usability.

Here’s our criteria for evaluating the AI tools:

  1. Accuracy: How well the AI tool’s outputs match the intended creation

  2. Quality: The visual quality of the generated images

  3. Usability: The user experience of the tool

  4. Control: The level of control users have to customize settings

  5. Speed: The tool’s operational performance

What about all the other AI image generators?

You might have noticed my list is short, with only four AI image generators. That's because I'm focusing on the main AI image models, not the apps built on top of them.

For example, Leonardo AI could be a good option when creating a virtual character for your AI generated Instagram model. This tool is built upon the Stable Diffusion technology.

Another example is Canva who also offers many AI features perfectly integrated into their editor. Also they run it upon Stable Diffusion technology.
